Indications of early habitation show that has been a human settlement for very many centuries ;these include traces of villa rustic found on the shore adjacent to a marina, an early Christian necropolis, the Church of St. John, dating from the same period, and the Romanesque, fresco -adorned church of St.Florus.
The sixteenth-century parish church of St Mary contains some precious works of art which are truly worth seeing, including a sixteenth-century statue of Our Lady, a painting depicting Mary visit to Elizabeth, and a impressive crucifix in gilded bronze, dating from the fifteenth century.
